Lisa Mitchell has taken home the fifth annual Australian Music Prize for her album Wonder.
Regarded as one of Australia's most prestigious music prizes, the win is a huge coup for Mitchell.
Prize Director, Scott Murphy said:
"From over 200 entries and more specifically, a brilliant shortlist of 9, The Amp's panel of judges has decided that the best Australian album released in 2009 is Wonder. The Australian Music Prize was established to reward Australian music of excellence, and the judges' choice of winner this year certainly reflects that criteria. My congratulations go to Lisa Mitchell."
Mitchell (who is currently on tour overseas) will receive a cash prize of $30 000, and she will also receive $30 000 of advertising across cable music networks Channel V and Max.
The Amp is heading into its sixth prize in 2010 and will open again for entries in October. For more information head to www.australianmusicprize.com.au. As in previous years, the award will be open to Australian artists across all genres who release original album-length works during 2010.
