Ever dreamed of going behind the scenes for intimate singing sessions with world-famous artists like Florence and the Machine, 50 Cent, David Guetta and Alicia Keys?
MySpace is offering music lovers the chance to enter the personal spaces of a whole host of artists –including Pixie Lott, Lostprophets, Chipmunk, Nelly Furtado and N-Dubz – as they discuss tracks that have touched their lives, and influenced their careers.
UK songbird Florence Welch, from Florence and the Machine, delivers an emotional rendition of “Don’t let Go” by En Vogue and explains the impact this song had on her early years. “You know when you’re on holiday and you listen to a song on repeat… I remember being like 11 and listening to that. Let’s play that one.” Welch’s other choices were Madonna’s “Borderline” and “The Rat” by The Walkmen.
Alicia Keys takes us to into the middle of a family get-together for a wicked rendition of “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green, “Welcome to Jamrock” by Damian ‘Jr Gong’ and “Pretty Young Thing” by Michael Jackson.
We join French dance sensation David Guetta in a record store where he explains that Michael Jackson's “Billie Jean” was the track responsible for leading him into the DJ world.
In addition to swooning over intimate music sessions, users can also create their own, very adventurous, clips through MySpace's Fan Video program. After logging in through MySpace or Facebook, fans select an artist and the program creates a mini-video using a profile photo.
50 cent puts a frame on his wall that features a user's photo, Alicia Keys sings a heartfelt piano track while admiring a user's picture atop her piano, and Florence Welch sticks a Polaroid shot of the user on her mirror, signing it “Love Florence.”
In a digital world that's heavy in user-generated content and a fascination with music and entertainment, these new MySpace projects have been unleashed at the perfect time.
