In a bid to address ugly street violence the State government and Liquor Licensing have introduced some sweeping Licensing changes that have had some unintended consequences for the local music scene.  As a reaction to this a non-politically aligned, independent entity made up of musicians and music lovers has formed called S.L.A.M (Save Live Australia's Music).

S.L.A.M. wants the Victorian government to admit they made a mistake and to make some changes, they would like a repeal that amplified music in small venues needs double security.

On the 23rd of Feb, coinciding with the 34th anniversary of ACDC's famous 'It's A Long Way To The Top' film clip shoot down Swanston St, S.L.A.M (Save Live Australia's Music) is organising a protest in support and celebration of the music scene in Victoria where current liquor licensing laws threaten to pull the plug on live music.

If you want to get involved they are meeting 4pm outside the State Library in Melbourne City to make their way along Swanston St and up Bourke St to Parliament House in Spring St where there will be guest speakers from 6-7pm.

The S.L.A.M. have organised the RocKwiz Orchestra with guest performers to lead the rally, repeating the three chords from 'It's A Long Way to the Top' in the back of a flat bed truck.  They hope to attract 10,000 + people holding placards and instruments to raise awareness of the laws and the effects they are having on smaller venues.

The details are:

Date: Tuesday, February 23, 2010

Time: 4:00pm - 7:00pm

Location: Swanston St, MELBOURNE
