Angels & Airwaves have announced plans to release their third album, titled 'Love', as a free download this February 14, offering the ultimate Valentine's Day gift to their fans.
'Love' won't be released via the band's record label, instead Tom DeLonge and co will be self-releasing the album. The album cost DeLonge a reported US$500 000 to record, with band management agreeing the decision to release the album for free is a financial risk.
According to reports, DeLonge hopes to recoup the cost through touring, merchandise sales, corporate sponsorships, a deluxe release of 'Love' and premium exclusives via the band's website.
"We're redefining the music business," DeLonge said of the bold move. "And I honestly think we're going to be 10 times bigger because of it."
In other DeLonge news, he's suggested Blink 182 will release a new album in 2011. He's going to be one busy bee.
